Attorney Profiles

Erik A. Hassing joined the firm in 2007.  Erik's legal experience has focused primarily on criminal and civil litigation.   He graduated from Colby College in Waterville Maine majoring in Government.  After college Erik gained experience in sales and management before attending law school at Rutgers School of Law in Newark, New Jersey.  Throughout law school he focused on litigation, serving on the Moot Court Board and being awarded the Myron H. Harkavy Scholarship for demonstrating potential as a litigator, while taking a broad curriculum to become a well rounded attorney.  In addition his courses he found time to work for United States District Court Judge Harold Ackerman, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office, and a firm specializing in reinsurance litigation.   After law school Erik served as a law clerk to the Assignment Judge (the head trial judge) of Union County New Jersey, the Honorable Edward W. Beglin.  After his clerkship Erik served as an Assistant District Attorney in Bronx County New York for five years eventually being assigned to the Investigations Division where he investigated, arranged for arrest, and prosecuted through to trial numerous individuals charged with white collar fraud, organized automobile crime, arson, and insurance fraud.  He left the Bronx District attorney's office in 2005 and worked for a New Jersey personal injury defense firm that specialized in medical malpractice before becoming an associate at Bell & Gage (our firm's former name).  With his extensive trial experience he practices primarily in criminal defense and personal injury; however, he also works for local government clients, reviews and drafts wills, and conducts real estate closings.  He is married to his college sweetheart, Heide, and in his spare time enjoys home improvement projects and hiking with his two rescued dogs, a black Lab mix named Porter and a Doberman mix named Amber.
